Colours Tab
The Colours tab manages Step 3 of the customer wizard, where shoppers select lens colours and treatments. This tab has a branching structure with main categories and conditional sub-options.
How the Branching Flow Works
Section titled “How the Branching Flow Works”The Colours tab is structured in three levels:

Main Lens Colour Options (always shown to customers)
- Clear Lenses
- Transition Lenses (photochromic)
- Sunglasses Tints
- Blue Light Filter

Conditional Sub-Options (shown based on customer’s main selection)
- If customer selects Transition Lenses → they choose from Transition Colours (grey, brown, green, etc.)
- If customer selects Sunglasses Tints → they choose from Sunglasses Tint Options (colour, intensity, polarised)

Final Selection
- Customer’s choice from the main category (and sub-option if applicable) adds the configured price to their total
Main Lens Colour Options
Section titled “Main Lens Colour Options”These are the top-level categories shown to all customers in Step 3 of the wizard.
Default Categories
Section titled “Default Categories”Out of the box, SpecCart includes four main categories:
- Clear Lenses - Standard clear lenses for everyday use (typically £0)
- Transition Lenses - Photochromic lenses that darken in sunlight (triggers the Transition Colours sub-step)
- Sunglasses Tint - Fixed tint for sun protection (triggers the Sunglasses Tints sub-step)
- Blue Light Filter - Screen protection coating (typically an add-on price)
Configuration Fields
Section titled “Configuration Fields”For each main lens colour option:
- Name - Customer-facing label (e.g., “Transition Lenses”)
- ID - Unique identifier (auto-generated from name, cannot be changed after creation)
- Description - Brief explanation shown to customers (e.g., “Automatically darken in sunlight”)
- Lab PDF Label - Optional custom label for the Lab Order PDF. If empty, the name is used.
- Price - Additional cost for this option. Use £0 for included options.
- Enabled - Toggle to show/hide this option in the wizard
Adding a Main Lens Colour
Section titled “Adding a Main Lens Colour”- Click Add Option in the Lens Colour Options section
- Enter the option name (ID will auto-generate)
- Add a customer-facing description
- Set the price surcharge (or £0 if included)
- Click Add Option to save
Transition Colours
Section titled “Transition Colours”These sub-options appear when a customer selects Transition Lenses as their main lens colour.
Purpose
Section titled “Purpose”Transition (photochromic) lenses come in different colour tints. This section lets you offer grey, brown, green, and Xtractive variants with individual pricing.
Configuration Fields
Section titled “Configuration Fields”For each transition colour:
- Name - Colour name (e.g., “Grey”, “Brown Xtractive”)
- ID - Unique identifier (e.g., “grey”, “brown-xtractive”)
- Description - Brief explanation (e.g., “Classic grey tint”, “Extra dark brown, activates behind windshield”)
- Lab PDF Label - Optional custom label for lab orders
- Price - Additional cost for this specific colour (on top of the main Transition Lenses price)
- Color - Hex colour code for visual preview in the wizard (e.g.,
#6b7280for grey) - Enabled - Toggle to show/hide this colour
Default Transition Colours
Section titled “Default Transition Colours”SpecCart includes six default transition colours:

Adding a Transition Colour
Section titled “Adding a Transition Colour”- Scroll to the Transition Colours section
- Click Add Option
- Enter the colour name (e.g., “Amber”)
- Add a description (e.g., “Warm amber tint for enhanced contrast”)
- Set the price surcharge (e.g., £0 if included, £10 for premium)
- Choose a hex colour using the colour picker or enter manually (e.g.,
#d97706) - Click Add Option to save
Sunglasses Tints
Section titled “Sunglasses Tints”These sub-options appear when a customer selects Sunglasses Tints as their main lens colour.
Purpose
Section titled “Purpose”Sunglasses tints come in different colours, intensities, and polarised options. This section lets you configure all available combinations with individual pricing.
Configuration Fields
Section titled “Configuration Fields”For each sunglasses tint:
- Name - Tint name (e.g., “Grey 75%”, “Brown Polarised”)
- ID - Unique identifier (e.g., “grey-75”, “brown-polarised”)
- Description - Brief explanation (e.g., “Medium grey tint”, “Polarised brown for glare reduction”)
- Lab PDF Label - Optional custom label for lab orders
- Price - Additional cost for this specific tint (on top of the main Sunglasses Tints price)
- Color - Hex colour code for visual preview (e.g.,
#6b7280) - Intensity - Tint darkness level (25%, 50%, 75%, 85%, or Polarised)
- Enabled - Toggle to show/hide this tint
Default Sunglasses Tints
Section titled “Default Sunglasses Tints”SpecCart includes nine default tint options:
Light Tints (50%)
- Grey 50% - £0
- Green 50% - £0
- Brown 50% - £0
Medium Tints (75%)
- Grey 75% - £0
- Green 75% - £0
- Brown 75% - £0
Polarised
- Grey Polarised - £40
- Green Polarised - £40
- Brown Polarised - £40
Adding a Sunglasses Tint
Section titled “Adding a Sunglasses Tint”- Scroll to the Sunglasses Tints section
- Click Add Option
- Enter the tint name (e.g., “Amber 75%”)
- Add a description (e.g., “Medium amber tint for enhanced contrast”)
- Set the price surcharge (e.g., £15 for medium tints, £45 for polarised)
- Choose a hex colour using the colour picker (e.g.,
#d97706) - Select the intensity level from the dropdown (25%, 50%, 75%, 85%, or Polarised)
- Click Add Option to save
Pricing Strategy
Section titled “Pricing Strategy”Lens colour pricing works cumulatively:
Example 1: Transition Lenses
- Base frame price: £50
- Transition Lenses (main option): +£80
- Grey Transition (sub-option): +£0
- Total: £130
Example 2: Premium Transition
- Base frame price: £50
- Transition Lenses (main option): +£80
- Brown Xtractive (sub-option): +£30
- Total: £160
Example 3: Polarised Sunglasses
- Base frame price: £50
- Sunglasses Tints (main option): +£30
- Grey Polarised (sub-option): +£40
- Total: £120
Set your main option price to cover the base technology cost (photochromic, polarisation, etc.) and use sub-option pricing for premium upgrades (Xtractive, specific tints, polarisation).
Common Tasks
Section titled “Common Tasks”Disable a Colour Option
Section titled “Disable a Colour Option”- Find the option in the relevant section (Main Lens Colours, Transition Colours, or Sunglasses Tints)
- Click the Edit button (pencil icon)
- Toggle Enabled to Inactive
- Click Save Changes
The option will disappear from the customer wizard but remain in your admin settings for future re-activation.
Reorder Colour Options
Section titled “Reorder Colour Options”- Use the drag handle (three horizontal lines) on the left side of each option row
- Drag the option to the desired position
- Release to drop
- Changes save automatically
Change Pricing
Section titled “Change Pricing”- Click the Edit button (pencil icon) for the option
- Update the Price field
- Click Save Changes
Pricing changes apply immediately to new configurations. Existing orders are not affected.
Update Colour Swatches
Section titled “Update Colour Swatches”- Click the Edit button for the transition colour or sunglasses tint
- Click the colour picker square or enter a hex code manually (e.g.,
#6b7280) - Click Save Changes
The new colour swatch will appear in the customer wizard.
Tips for Success
Section titled “Tips for Success”Use Clear Naming
Section titled “Use Clear Naming”Name your options clearly from the customer’s perspective:
- Good: “Grey Polarised”, “Brown Xtractive”, “Blue Light Filter”
- Avoid: “Option 1”, “Special Coating”, “Upgrade A”
Set Realistic Colours
Section titled “Set Realistic Colours”Choose hex colours that closely match your actual lens tints. Customers use these swatches to make visual decisions.
Organize by Popularity
Section titled “Organize by Popularity”Set sort orders so the most popular options appear first. Customers are more likely to select options near the top of the list.
Test the Wizard
Section titled “Test the Wizard”After making changes, view a product page as a customer and step through the wizard to ensure your options display correctly and prices calculate as expected.
Keep Descriptions Brief
Section titled “Keep Descriptions Brief”The description field is shown in the wizard as supporting text. Keep it to one short sentence that explains the key benefit or feature.
