Packages

The Packages tab controls Step 4 of the customer lens configurator wizard. Here you define lens thickness and coating combinations that customers can choose from, such as standard, thin, extra-thin, and ultra-thin packages with various coating features.

Lens packages combine two critical aspects of lens manufacturing:

  1. Lens Index (Thickness) — The refractive index determines how thin the lens will be. Higher index values (1.6, 1.67, 1.74) mean thinner, lighter lenses.
  2. Coating Features — The included coatings and treatments, such as anti-scratch, anti-glare, UV protection, or premium multi-layer coatings.

Each package represents a bundled offering shown to customers in Step 4 of the wizard, after they’ve selected their lens type, varifocal options (if applicable), and colour preferences.

Default packages (out of the box):

  • Anti Scratch Only 1.5 at £0
  • Anti Glare + Anti Scratch 1.5 at £30
  • Thin & Light 1.6 at £50
  • Extra Thin 1.67 at £80
  • Ultra Thin 1.74 at £120
  1. Click the Add Option button at the top-right of the Packages section

  2. Fill in the required fields:

    • Name (required) — The customer-facing name, e.g., “Extra Thin with Premium Coating”
    • ID (auto-generated) — A unique identifier based on the name. Cannot be changed after creation
    • Description — Explanation of what’s included in this package
    • Lens Index (required) — Dropdown select with 5 options: 1.5 (Standard), 1.56 (Mid-index), 1.6 (Thin), 1.67 (Extra Thin), 1.74 (Ultra Thin)
    • Lab PDF Label — Custom label for this package on the Lab Order PDF. If empty, the option name is used
    • Price (required) — Cost for this package. Use 0 for included packages
    • Recommended — Toggle to mark this as the recommended option (shows a badge to customers)
    • Enabled — Toggle to show/hide this package in the customer wizard
  3. Click Add Option to save

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the package you want to edit
  2. Update any fields (except ID, which is locked after creation)
  3. Click Save Changes
  1. Click the trash icon next to the package
  2. Confirm the deletion when prompted

Deleted packages cannot be recovered. If customers have already placed orders with this package, consider disabling it instead.

You can change the order in which packages appear to customers by dragging and dropping using the handle icon (three horizontal lines) on the left of each package.

The order you set here determines the display order in Step 4 of the wizard.

Use the toggle switch on each package to enable or disable it without deleting it.

Disabled packages will not appear in the customer wizard but remain in your settings for future use. This is useful for seasonal offerings or testing new package configurations.

The lens index (or refractive index) determines how thin and light the finished lens will be for a given prescription strength. The Lens Index field is a dropdown select with exactly 5 options:

  • 1.5 (Standard) — Thickest and most affordable. Suitable for low prescriptions (under ±2.00)
  • 1.56 (Mid-index) — Slightly thinner than standard, good entry-level upgrade
  • 1.6 (Thin) — Approximately 20% thinner than 1.5. Good for most prescriptions
  • 1.67 (Extra Thin) — Approximately 30% thinner than 1.5. Recommended for moderate to high prescriptions (±3.00 and above)
  • 1.74 (Ultra Thin) — Approximately 40% thinner than 1.5. Best for very high prescriptions (±6.00 and above)

You can structure packages in several ways:

  1. Index-Based Pricing — Higher index values cost more

    • Standard (1.5) at £0
    • Thin (1.6) at +£30
    • Extra Thin (1.67) at +£60
    • Ultra Thin (1.74) at +£100
  2. Coating-Based Pricing — Same index, different coatings

    • Basic Anti-Scratch (1.6) at +£20
    • Anti-Glare & Anti-Scratch (1.6) at +£40
    • Premium Multi-Layer (1.6) at +£60
  3. Bundle Pricing — Combine both

    • Standard + Basic Coating (1.5) at £0
    • Thin + Anti-Glare (1.6) at +£50
    • Extra Thin + Premium Coating (1.67) at +£90

Extra Thin Upgrade (1.67 index)

Customers don’t need to know technical specifications. Focus on benefits:

Good:

“Extra thin lenses that are 30% slimmer than standard. Ideal for stronger prescriptions and anyone who wants a sleeker, more attractive look. Includes premium anti-glare coating to reduce reflections.”

Avoid:

“1.67 high-index polycarbonate with multi-layer AR coating and hydrophobic top coat.”

Help customers choose the right package based on their prescription:

“Standard lenses work great for prescriptions up to ±2.00. If your prescription is higher, we recommend our Thin or Extra Thin packages for a slimmer, more comfortable fit.”

Instead of listing coating names, explain what they do:

  • “Scratch-resistant coating protects your lenses from daily wear”
  • “Anti-glare coating reduces reflections for clearer vision and better appearance in photos”
  • “Water-repellent coating makes lenses easier to clean”
  • “UV protection shields your eyes from harmful rays”

Mark your best-value or most popular package as recommended. This guides customers who are unsure and can increase conversion on mid-tier packages.

Only mark one package as recommended. Multiple recommendations dilute the effect.

In Step 4 of the wizard, customers see:

  • Package name as the main heading
  • Description text explaining what’s included
  • Lens index value (displayed as “Index: 1.67” in the admin list, but you control how it’s explained in the description)
  • Price surcharge (if applicable) displayed clearly
  • “Recommended” badge (if enabled) highlighting your suggested option
  • Enabled packages only, in the order you’ve set

The order of display matches the sort order you set via drag and drop.
